1. Ulagalantha Perumal Temple
The main tourist attraction of Tirukoilur is Ulagalantha Perumal Temple or Trivikrama Temple. Constructed in South Indian style of architecture, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu who is worshipped as Ulagalantha Perumal and his consort Lakshmi as Poongothai.
As per the legend, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Vamana to crush the pride of asura King Bali (Mahabali) at this place. The Story of “Place for one to sleep, two to sit and three to Stand” is also associated with this temple referring to the attainment of salvation by the first three alwar (azhwar) saints at this place.
Presiding deity, Ulagalantha Perumal (Lord Vishnu) is depicted in the ‘Trivikrama’ form with one foot on the ground and the other raised right up in the direction of the sky.
2. Veeratteswarar Temple
Also known as the Thirukoilur Veerattam, this temple is dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva and is one of the Ashta Veeratta Sthalams that you can visit during your Tirukoilur trip with Chennai Drive. Here Lord Shiva or Veeratteshwarar is worshipped in the form of a lingam and his consort Goddess Parvati as Periyianayagi.
As per the legends, Lord Shiva has slayed eight demons at different points of time and appeared to slay the demon king Andakasura at this place. Veeratteswarar Temples have been built to signify each of his victories over evil.
This Dravidian style temple is believed to have been built during the reign of the Chola dynasty in the 10th century.
3. Kabilar Kundru
Kabilar Kundru or Kabilar rock is a hill rock in the middle of the Ponnaiyar river near Tirukoilur. It is a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India.
There is a small temple on the rock which can be reached by taking a flight of concrete steps that have been added in the later years.
This rock is known as the place where Tamil saint poet Kabilar sacrificed his life by performing Vadakirrutal (fast unto death) to grieve death of his close friend, King Vel Pari in a battle.

The temple finds mention in the Sanskrit work ‘Skanda Purana’. It is believed to be older than the Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam and hence is called ‘Adhi Rangam’.
